ACDC 1Scottish born brothers, Malcolm and Angus Young, formed the band in Sydney, in 1973. Malcolm and Angus had an older brother, George Young, who had a great influence in their musical career.  George was a member of the Easybeats, who were responsible for one of Australia’s first international hits in 1966, “Friday On My Mind”.

ACDC 2With over 70 million albums sold in the United States, they are rated in the five top selling bands in American music history.  Globally they have sold more than 150 million albums in their three decades of performing. Often referred to in Australia as “Acca Dacca”, they classify their music as rock and roll, but many believe they were the pioneers of heavy metal.

The band started with the two Young brothers, Larry Van Kriedt, Dave Evans and Colin Burgess.  During the early years, there were a number of changes to the bands line-up, but they continued to build support from within Australia.

In 1974 Bon Scott joined AC/DC and in January 1975, their first album, “High Voltage” was recorded.  Later that year they released their single that has become a rock anthem, “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll)”

ACDC 31976 saw AC/DC start their international debut, with a European Tour, supporting a number of bands including Kiss and Black Sabbath.

Over the next 13 or so years, with some further changes to their line-up, AC/DC released seven albums.  They had become a rock phenomenon, and one of the hottest concert attractions in the world.

Tragically, on 19 February 1980, AC/DC’s lead singer Bon Scott died at age 33.  Although it was a tremendous shock, the remaining members of the band decided to continue on.  They knew that was what Scott would have wanted.

Scott’s death opened the door for Brian Johnson.  With Johnson now the front man, AC/DC recorded “Back in Black”, one of the best selling albums of all time.  It achieved 22 x Platinum Status.

Many more albums would come, a total of 19 since 1975.  Their last was Black Ice in October 2008.  Here is a list of their albums:
